Water Softeners

water softeners

Are you battling with the difficulties of hard water? Do you have various queries about water softeners? In the US, people belonging to various parts suffer a lot from the hard water supply. Thus, most of them install a hard water softener in order to resolve the issue. In the water softening process, the magnesium and calcium minerals are exchanged with sodium. Using this water softener for huge quantities of water over the duration of time will deplete the functioning of the softener. In order to get it back to proper working condition, you need to get it regenerated. For this regenerating process, a lot of brine solution is required which is later passed through the septic tank and then to the system’s drain field. Though people use water softeners, they have numerous doubts in their minds regarding the bacteria in the septic tank, its effect on the septic tank’s performance, and the performance of the drain field. Although these doubts have been answered by various experts, few experts even feel that more studies are required. As you read on you can get to know more about hard water and water softeners.

Hard water

When water flows through the rocks, minerals like magnesium and calcium get dissolved in the water and turn into hard water. This presence of minerals in the hard water makes it very difficult for mankind to perform all household tasks. It becomes very difficult to use soap with hard water since soap becomes pasty scum when combined with hard water. It becomes very difficult to wash clothes and as a result, you will have to make use of more content of detergent and soap to get your clothes and household items cleaned. On the other hand, this hard water forms scales of your dishware and cars as well. It even reduced the ability of faucets, plumbing pipes, water heaters, and so on.

Water Softeners

In water softeners, the basic process is an exchange of minerals.  For this purpose, there are two tanks in the machine, a brine tank, and a mineral tank. A mineral tank consists of a negative electric charge to absorb the positive minerals in the hard water. Thus, all the minerals will be removed from the water. Later brine solution will be flushed through the beads to make them free from the minerals accumulated. This brine solution removes the minerals from the beads.

Regeneration

After using the machine for a longer duration, you need to recharge it in order to get it back to proper working condition.  The regeneration process will be performed in three stages. The first is the backwash phase, in which water flow is reversed to flush out the accumulated waste. Next is the recharge phase, in which the sodium solution is passed through the mineral tank. The final step is to flush the beads with excess brine solution, which will later be disposed of through the drain.

Understanding the septic system

Understanding more about septic tanks will relieve you of many of your doubts. Septic tank, distribution box, and drain field are the three basic components in a septic system.  The water from the house initially flows into the septic tank. Here the light material floats on the surface and the solid material accumulates at the bottom of the tank. This waste will then be partially decomposed by the bacteria that come along with the human waste. In the secondary treatment stage, the liquid flows out into the distribution tank from where it flows into the drain field pipes network. This water will later be treated in the soil under the trenches. On the other hand, make it a point to periodically remove sludge to avoid clogs.
